Recount Your Blessings | November 30th
A businessman who had every material possession he desired was feeling discontent with his home. He decided to call his cousin, a local realtor, and explained that he wanted to sell his house immediately. The cousin replied, "I know your home well, but please describe it in your own words so I can create an effective advertising piece."

The businessman began by highlighting the impressive foliage surrounding the house, the well-manicured lawn, and the expensive tree planted on the property. He continued to list features of the exterior, including a two-car garage, a new roof, and a modern masonry design.

Inside, he mentioned the updated bathrooms, floors, and lighting fixtures, along with the five bedrooms and an impressive game room. After finishing his description, he asked his cousin to read it back to him before listing the house on the market.

When his cousin got to the end of the details, the businessman paused and said, "Is that my home? That's the home I always wanted! I am not selling!"
Just like that man, we can easily become complacent and even discontent with our blessings. Familiarity can sometimes lead to a lack of appreciation in our relationships, jobs, teams, possessions, like our homes, or even in our connection to the church. It might be helpful for us to take stock of what we have before we think about selling, trading, or wishing those things away. Scripture teaches us the importance of reflecting on our blessings. Psalm 90:1 says, “I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.”

Reflecting on your blessings can help cultivate a sense of gratitude, bringing peace to your mind and clarity to your thoughts. By acknowledging the gifts you have received from God, you can dispel feelings of negativity and complaint. Remember, God has blessed you so that you can be a blessing to others. So, take a moment to give thanks for everything He has entrusted to you by recounting your blessings!
