God Is Always On Duty

God Is Always On Duty |Monday, December 4th

A mother and her 8-year-old daughter were preparing for bedtime. The child was afraid of the dark, and the mother, on this occasion alone with the child, felt fearful also. The child caught a glimpse of the moon outside the window when the light was out. "Mother," she asked, "is the moon God's light?" "Yes," said the mother.

The next question was, "Will God put out His light and go to sleep?"
The mother replied, "No, my child, God never goes to sleep." Then, out of the simplicity of a child's faith, she reassured the fearful mother by saying, "Well, as long as God is awake, there is no sense in both of us staying awake."

You never have to worry about God missing a shift or calling out sick. Nor do you need to be concerned about God sleeping in or taking a sabbatical from His providential care for you. As the little girl learned, we must stand on the strength-giving yet straightforward conviction that God is always on duty! Thus, He is fully aware of your anxiousness and sleepless nights. He knows about your concerns and fears. Therefore, put your trust in His consistency and rest in His promises.

Psalm 121:1-8, "I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; 8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore."
