Pathway To Blessing

Pathway To Blessing | July 29th

According to dictionaries of biblical theology, a proper definition of blessing is "God's favor and protection upon a person." Thus, seeking these provisions as a prayerful petition is common before God. However, the pathway to blessing is not limited to prayer. Scripture makes clear that blessing also depends on the path of your life.

Psalm 1 says, "Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers. 4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. 5 Therefore, the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction."

Notice that God connects blessing to the path that we choose in life. Therefore, it's a contradictory prayer to ask for God's blessing while spending time in the wrong places, with the wrong people, and pursuing the wrong plans. As a loving parent, God will always accept us, but He will not necessarily agree with our decisions. See, our choices need to line up with God's Word. Also, if we neglect God by skipping serving opportunities and regular church attendance while making time for everything else, do not expect God to bless your me-first agenda.

It's imperative to understand that God desires to bless you and me even more than we expect or dream of. However, we need to get into agreement with Him because this is the pathway to blessing.
