A Nation That Forgets God Will Go Under

A Nation That Forgets God Will Go Under | November 4, 2024

During his remarks at an Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast in Dallas, Texas, back on August 23, 1984, our 40th President of the United States, President Ronald Regan, said, "Without God, there is no virtue, because there's no prompting of the conscience. Without God, we're mired in the material, that flat world that tells us only what the senses perceive. Without God, there is a coarsening of the society. And without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure. If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under."

President Reagan's words, spoken at that  Breakfast in Dallas in 1984 continue to resonate with wisdom and relevance. As believers who are active participants in this democracy, we must always remember our primary allegiance to God and the necessity of His blessing on our nation.

Psalm 33:12 declares, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!"

While this promise is in the context of Israel's place in God's plans, we can learn a lot about God's character and the expected commitment of His people. See, God is faithful and will always provide for and preserve anyone who sincerely follows Him. Americans can confidently and humbly expect God's covering as a nation when we seek the Lord and His kingdom agenda.

Psalm 34:10b says,  "those who seek the Lord lack no good thing."

With Election Day being tomorrow, it is crucial for us to refocus our thoughts and dependence on God Almighty. Let us not cast votes based on popularity or who a celebrity may or may not endorse. Instead, let us vote based on our Biblical convictions, understanding that this is a responsibility and a privilege while praying for each candidate and their families. If God's people will do this, we will guard against becoming a nation gone under!
