Praying For Israel | October 11, 2023
Last week, a Palestinian militant group known as Hamas, which follows the ideological principles of Islamism, viciously attacked Israel in an unprecedented terrorist strike. According to Israel Defense, more than 1000 Israelis have been killed, thousands more injured, and over 100 Israeli civilians, soldiers, and foreign nationals have also been taken hostage. Another report said that of the casualties this week, 11 were American citizens. In response, Israel bombarded the Gaza Strip with airstrikes on Monday.
Scripture is consistent in noting the conflicts that always surrounded Israel. Whether it was foreign nations looking to usurp authority or others trying to set up a vassal king, that geographical location has always been a prime target for aggression.
Although there is little we can do physically to help at this present time, we do have instructions in the Bible concerning prayer for Israel. Psalm 122:6 says, "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: 'May those who love you be secure.' "
Knowing this, we can pray in the following ways:
First, we can pray for Jewish-Israeli leaders to respond with decisiveness and wisdom to these barbaric attacks because Hamas and those who support them must be stopped.
Secondly, we can pray for everyone directly impacted by these acts of terror. The enemies of Israel have bombed them, conducted execution-style raids, and committed brutal attacks against women and children.
Thirdly, we can pray for our nation as we respond and seek God's covering because, within the past 24 months, global aggression, like Russia and Hamas, has dramatically increased. We also need to pray for stronger leadership within America as we continue to deal with the pressing problems associated with our unprotected borders and how that relates to potential terror attacks on our soil.
Finally, pray for God to bring justice and refuge in the region and calm our hearts as we process the many uncertainties in our world.
May God bring His lasting and legitimate peace to Israel through His Son Jesus, the Prince of Peace. #prayforIsrael
