You Can Overcome Doubt
You Can Overcome Doubt | August 22, 2023
The devil had a closing-down sale and was selling all his tools and devices of destruction. Someone asked him how much he wanted for the wedge of doubt. He said, "It's not for sale. I can get back into business with that one anytime."
Without question, doubt can wreak havoc on your life. Typically the devil likes to get you to a place where doubting God seems normal. You can doubt God's provisions, His presence, and His power. As your thoughts are consumed with doubt, hopelessness begins to dominate your every move. While it may seem like no relief is in sight, God offers a promise of comfort and hope.
Psalm 94:19 says, "When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer."
The dark clouds of doubt may rain down discouragement and despair, but a renewed sense of hope is possible. Perhaps the wisest thing you can do with your confusion is to share it with God and a trusted friend in the faith. Over the years, I have watched people's emotional baggage of struggles fall off as they released their doubt. We usually are good about sharing just about every other difficulty except doubt. Perhaps it's because we are worried that others will question our faith or toughness. Regardless of judgmental opinions, what matters is that you become transparent about your doubt, just as the psalmist (Psalm 94:19) said that doubts filled every inch of his mind.
We must realize that doubt opens the door to emotional, physical, relational, and spiritual fatigue. Therefore, face your bouts with doubt and trust God to renew your hope. If you are experiencing doubt regularly, take at least one day to fast this coming week. During that fast, focus on Scriptures that offer promises of comfort and hope, such as:
Second Thessalonians 2:16-17, "Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, 17 comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say."
May God renew your strength and hope as you release your doubts.
