Be An Anyway Type Of Person

Be An Anyway Type Of Person | October 23, 2023

Mother Teresa was an Albanian-Indian Catholic nun best remembered for her kindness in Calcutta, where she faithfully served those who were poverty-stricken and sick. In 1946, Mother Teresa said she received a "call within the call" to serve in Calcutta, which included living among those struggling. Her poem "Anyway" captures the perspective that every person should have, especially those who call themselves Christians:

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

You will feel urges to respond to others in mean ways because they treated you harshly. You will be tempted into thinking selfish thoughts because it seems everyone does. You will be enticed into believing there is no point in being good. You will be ridiculed and mocked for your faith because people are ignorant. You will be busy doing your agenda because life is distracting.

However, even though these scenarios will be realities in your life if they haven't already, seek to be an anyway type of person, meaning that you seek God and His kingdom plan no matter what life throws at you. Thus, refuse to be reactive and instead be proactive mentally, emotionally, relationally, and spiritually. Make a choice now to live for God's honor and be helpful in His kingdom plan by saying, "Even if circumstances and people are against me, I will seek God's best anyway."

To accomplish this anyway mentality, remember the words of Jesus, "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need" (Matthew 6:33).
