Flying Together In The Faith

Geese fly in a V-formation to enhance energy efficiency during migration, potentially increasing their flying range by over 70% compared to flying solo.
This formation offers several advantages for teamwork. For example, consider the principles of aerodynamics: the lead bird breaks the wind, creating a low-pressure area behind it. The birds that follow fly slightly above the leader to take advantage of this effect, which reduces air resistance and makes gliding easier.

Another benefit of flying together is the ability for the lead bird to rotate positions. Since being the leader is the most exhausting role, when the leader becomes tired, it can move back within the formation to rest while another goose takes over. This shared responsibility allows for sustained flight over longer distances.

Additionally, consider the sounds geese make as they fly in a V formation. Their honking serves as encouragement to the other geese. The geese behind honk to encourage the leader to maintain a brisk pace.
Furthermore, when a goose becomes sick, injured, or falls out of formation, two other geese will leave the group to assist and protect it. This mutual support is crucial to the flock's well-being.

The concept of teamwork is not only evident in the sky but also in the Scriptures. A single person could not accomplish the monumental task of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. Although God gave Nehemiah the vision and burden to take the initiative on this project, it still required a team to achieve it.

Nehemiah 2:17-18 says, “But now I said to them, ‘You know very well what trouble we are in. Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire. Let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem and end this disgrace!’ 18 Then I told them about how the gracious hand of God had been on me, and about my conversation with the king. They replied at once, ‘Yes, let’s rebuild the wall!’ So they began the good work.”

Like Nehemiah, the laborers and servants were inspired and united by their faith, and we can learn much from their example. Unfortunately, many people within God's formation are preoccupied with complaining and unjustly criticizing others. Whether due to laziness or insecurity, their attitudes and actions do not contribute positively to the flock.

To guard against this mindset, let us focus on flying together in faith and fulfilling the mission that God has for us.
