Monday Morning Beliefs

Monday Morning Beliefs | October 27, 2025

You may be familiar with the phrase "Monday Morning Blues." Whether it's emotional factors like the stress of another week of work or school, not getting enough sleep, or just sadness that the weekend went by so quickly, the Monday Morning Blues are real.
While this isn't necessarily a clinically diagnosed disorder yet, experiencing the "morning blues" in general is a genuine challenge for many individuals. One survey found that over 72% of women struggle with the infamous morning blues.
Medical studies have sought to explore this well-known struggle. For example, a 2024 article on WebMD reported that depression may feel more intense in the morning. Doctors explain that individuals can wake up experiencing what is referred to as a "low mood."The article further states, "Morning depression can be part of a phenomenon called diurnal mood variation, which refers to the fact that symptoms of clinical depression can fluctuate throughout the day, often worsening during the morning hours. Morning blues can look like classic depression. Signs may include feeling sad, anxious, and lacking interest in anything. You may feel most down after you wake up and notice that you: (1) Have no energy to start your day, (2) Feel cranky, (3) Overslept or find it hard to get out of bed, and (4) Feel frustrated."
A case of the morning blues is only intensified when it's on a Monday. Therefore, how can we combat this clear and present problem?  The answer to our Monday Morning Blues is found in adopting what I call "Monday Morning Beliefs."
Here are a few go to's for me:
My battle belongs to the Lord: First Samuel 17:47b, "For the battle is the Lord's..."
God cares about me and my adversity: First Peter 5:7, "Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you."
God will give my mind peace.  Isaiah 26:3, "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you."
God's grace is sufficient. Second Corinthians 12:9a, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness…”
I am more than a conqueror in Christ. Romans 8:37, "We are more than conquerors through Christ who loved us."
These belief statements are based not on my feelings but on the facts of God's Word. When I refocus on these truths, my Monday morning blues don't stand a chance at stealing my joy anymore.
