Give From Warm Hands

Give From Warm Hands | January 29, 2026

Chuck Feeney secretly gave away his entire multi-billion-dollar fortune over the course of his life to various charities and foundations, mainly through his organization, Atlantic Philanthropies. He was guided by the philosophy of "giving while living." Living a relatively simple life, he avoided seeking recognition and often remained anonymous until later in life. He successfully gave away over $8 billion and passed away with very little money left.
Feeney's generosity exemplifies the concept of "giving from warm hands."  While it's considerate, prudent, and wise to leave resources for your family and others after you pass away, giving while you are still alive is even more impactful. This way, you can witness the actual results of your contributions and live out the responsibility to do good with the blessings you have received from God. This perspective on giving is powerful, but let's be clear: it would be impossible if you didn't value people and were self-seeking.

Philippians 2:3-4 says, "Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others."

To reinforce these verses, think of a person in your life who embodies the "giving from warm hands" mindset. These are individuals who prioritize others above themselves and are making a difference right now. It's not about seeking fanfare or self-promotion, as so many seem to be consumed by today. Instead, it's about being a blessing and doing good for others. For me, that person is my brother Matt. He is a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He gives so much of himself to our church, and because of that, we are all blessed by his warm hands of generosity. Today, we are especially thankful for him because it’s his birthday.
John Wesley once profoundly said, “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”

Let us give from warm hands, do good, and leave the results to God.
