Start Your Week In Church

Start Your Week In Church | September 28, 2025

One of my good buddies and faithful church member, Vinny, who honorably serves in the NYPD and is part of our security ministry, shared this comical story with me that I tweaked a bit to fit into today's devotional.

A pastor decided to skip church one Sunday morning to play a round of golf. He called his admistrative assistant and told her he wasn't feeling well, so she should arrange for another minister to cover the services. To avoid being recognized, he drove to a golf course in a different city.

He teed off on the first hole. An unusually large gust of wind caught his ball and carried it an extra hundred yards, dropping it right in the hole for a 450-yard hole-in-one!

An angel asked God in heaven, "Why did you do that? He lied about why he was missing church so he could play golf."

God smiled at the angel and said, "Who is he going to tell about his amazing hole-in-one? Everyone thinks he's sick today!"

I appreciate this story because it highlights the often unnecessary excuses we make regarding church attendance. While there's nothing wrong with playing golf or engaging in other enjoyable activities on a Sunday or any day, we should remember to prioritize Sunday for worship and plan our activities around that commitment.

Building consistency in your church attendance is essential for spiritual growth, and genuine peace and joy will emerge. Psalm 122:1,  "I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord."

Now if your reading this between holes on the golf course and you have a hole in one of your own to tell us about, you can still make it to one of our later services at Crossroads if you live close or watch from home.   Either way, its wise to start your week in church.
