End Your Year In Church

End Your Year In Church | December 28, 2025
Today marks the 52nd and final Sunday of the year. This Sunday is unique because it's your last opportunity in 2025 to attend church on the designated "first day of the week."
According to the New Testament, Jesus rose on the first day of the week, Sunday (Matthew 28:1; Mark 16:2, 9; Luke 24:1; John 20:1, 19). Furthermore, Luke, Paul, and John all mention the "first day of the week" in relation to church activities. Acts 20:7 Luke records Paul's words when he says, "On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul talked with them, intending to depart on the next day, and he prolonged his speech until midnight."
In First Corinthians 16:2, Paul told the church at Corinth, "On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come."
In Revelation 1:10, John wrote about the amazing unveiling of God's redemption story by saying, "It was the Lord's Day, and I was worshiping in the Spirit. Suddenly, I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet blast."
Ending the year in church offers some unique opportunities. First, finishing the year well is always advisable, especially in terms of your relationship with God. Attending church at the end of the year can help pave the way for consistent church attendance in 2026, which is essential for spiritual growth. If you are already a regular attendee, your commitment has already paid off this year, reinforcing the importance of that dedication moving forward.
Additionally, attending church on the last Sunday of the year provides a valuable opportunity to cleanse your heart of bitterness, struggles with sin, or negative attitudes through sincere confession. This practice can help you start the New Year on a positive note. After all, you don’t want to carry any mental baggage into the new year.
Finally, attending church on the last Sunday of the year allows us to gather with others to praise God through song, prayer, and giving. Worshipping God can be a transformative experience both neurologically and spiritually. Scripture promises peace to those whose minds are focused on God. (Isaiah 26:3).
Make it a priority to attend your church today, either in person or online. End the year by giving thanks to God for His faithfulness and proclaiming His goodness as we enter 2026.
