Oh Lord, I Pray, Deliver My Soul

Oh Lord, I Pray, Deliver My Soul | November 13th
Are you in a tough spot? Do you feel overwhelmed by the weight of your worries? Well, you are not alone. Everyone (including the people God used to write chapters about in the book of Psalms) has, at one time or another, experienced those dark nights of the soul when there seems to be no hope. However, we must take courage in these times of turmoil because God hears our pleas for mercy.
Psalm 116:1-6 says, "I love the Lord because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. 2 Because he inclined his ear to me; therefore I will call on him as long as I live. 3 The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish. 4 Then I called on the name of the Lord: 'O Lord, I pray, deliver my soul!' 5 Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; our God is merciful. 6 The Lord preserves the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me."
The start of this Psalm expresses a genuine love for God from someone He seemingly delivered from the point of death. Whether his crisis was physical, mental, relational, or a combination of all three, we'll never know this side of heaven, but we do know that God is trustworthy and timely with His care for us.
You may be just inches away from giving up. Only God can rescue you and provide the refuge you need. Therefore, let us recognize our need for God in whatever season. Thus, remember God's past deliverances, stand in your praise of Him, and remain confident in Him in your current challenge or hardship.
May we never forsake the perspective and conviction to trust God in our troubles. Instead, like the Psalmist, we need to recognize our need for God and humbly say, "Oh Lord, I pray, deliver my soul!"
