God's Ways Are Different Than Our Ways

God's Ways Are Different Than Our Ways | August 4, 2025

I came across a story about a shipwreck. After the sole survivor reached a small, uninhabited island, he did what any of us would do: he prayed for God to rescue him, but help did not come! He eventually built a hut from driftwood to protect himself from the elements. One day, he returned from scavenging for food and found his hut engulfed in flames, with smoke rising into the sky. Angrily, he cried out, "God, how could You do this to me?" The next morning, he was awakened by rescuers. "How did you know I was here?" he asked. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied!
Maybe you can relate to our friend who was shipwrecked.  You petition and plead with God, but your prayers go unanswered.  You adapt to your new normal by building your own hut of security. However, your work and plans go up in flames along with your frustration levels.  Before you give up or miss God's blessings of rescue and relief, remember these three important Biblical truths:
First, God's ways are not our ways. Isaiah 55:8-9, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."  What may seem like a setback may indeed be a setup for a breakthrough.
Secondly, God is working while you wait. Although it may seem like there is no progress or anything productive to point to, God is at work behind the scenes of your situation. Psalm 27:14 says, "Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."
Finally, God will work your "it" together for your good, which may extend into eternity.  Romans 8:28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
With this in mind, stand firm in your faith and leave the results to God.
