Streaming Christmas Music

Streaming Christmas Music | December 23rd
According to Spotify, Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas" is the most-streamed Christmas song, with 2.3 billion streams! Whether you've streamed that song or not, there is no shortage of Christmas music. Even if you don't enjoy Christmas tunes, there's no escaping them this time of year. Many radio stations shift from their regular programming to play only Christmas music, starting as early as Thanksgiving and continuing through Christmas Day. Certain artists are synonymous with the holiday season, including Nat King Cole, Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra, Amy Grant, Michael Bublé, and others.
While many classic and contemporary versions of Christmas songs are delightful, one of the most significant Christmas songs is attributed to Mary. After learning about her miraculous mission to carry the Messiah, Mary visited her older cousin Elizabeth, who was also expecting a child. During this momentous occasion, Mary expressed her joy about her pregnancy and God's plan through her song.
Luke 1:46-51 tells us, "And Mary said: 'My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 because he has looked with favor on the humble condition of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed, 49 because the Mighty One has done great things for me, and his name is holy. 50 His mercy is from generation to generation on those who fear him. 51 He has done a mighty deed with his arm; he has scattered the proud because of the thoughts of their hearts...' "
The lyrics of Mary's song are steeped with Old Testament references, and there are notable similarities to Hannah's prayer in 1 Samuel 2:1-10. She was also barren, and God blessed her with Samuel.
Perhaps the most notable portion of Mary's melody is verse 46, where she says, "My soul magnifies the Lord." In essence, Mary was proclaiming that God was prominent in her life.
Like Mary, the Lord our God should be the center of everything we do. Then we can join in and sing:
"My soul, my soul magnifies the Lord
My soul magnifies the Lord
He has done great things for me
Great things for me."
