Maintain A Healthy Conscience

Maintain A Healthy Conscience | June 28th

In recent years, healthy nutrition initiatives have become a booming industry.  Economists project that spending on more nutritious options will reach as much as $1.6 trillion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 9.4%.
Healthy nutrition is essential for overall well-being, but the need doesn't stop with food.  See, the Scriptures emphasize the importance of maintaining a healthy conscience. Think of the word conscience as your God-given gauge concerning moral awareness about what is right and wrong. Often, our reactions to opportunities, good or bad, indicate the conscience's condition.
First Peter 3:16 says, "…Keep your conscience clear. Then, if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ."
First Timothy 1:5 states, "The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith."
A healthy conscience is essential for maintaining a strong relationship with God and others. When you feel a sense of conviction, responding by going to the Lord in prayer and, if necessary, confessing is essential. However, if we continuously ignore God's promptings and compromise our convictions, our conscience will become less sensitive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Finally, how can we determine if our conscience is unhealthy or dangerously sick? Start by evaluating your speech. How are you talking to others? Remember Jesus' words in Luke 6:45: "A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart."
Next, ask God to search your heart.  Psalm 139:23-24 says, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” We often believe we are always right. In this process, we tend to judge others while failing to reflect on ourselves. If you recognize this behavior, it may indicate that your conscience is troubled.
Remember that God is faithful and gracious, but we also have a responsibility to be loyal to Him, which we do with a healthy conscience.
