God's Forgiveness And Our Failures

God's Forgiveness And Our Failures | June 13th

A recent study revealed that the 12,436-mile trip from the North Pole to the South Pole is a fascinating expedition and, therefore, is on many people's bucket lists.

Thankfully, when God wrote Psalm 103:12, He didn't have these two poles in mind. The beloved verse says, "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us."

See, east to west is an incalculable distance representing infinite space. Think of it this way: There are no ends to the east and west directions because these are on a continuous loop, or one end connects back to the other. Compared to the north and south, you can travel north only a certain distance before being propelled to travel south; thus, north and south meet at their respective geographic poles.

Therefore, we should be overjoyed that the verse doesn't say, "He has removed our transgressions and stupidity as far as the north is from the south." In that scenario, we would find a way to get reacquainted with our past because the distance from north to south is a defined one. Instead, God has chosen this example of east to west, an indefinite loop, to communicate the depths and dependability of His forgiveness.

We find great strength in knowing God's forgiveness is greater than our failures. Case in Point: An Interview with an Older Woman about Her Faith. The reporter asked, "Does the devil ever trouble you about your past sins?" She answered, "Yes." When the inquirer asked what she does, she replied, "Oh, I just tell him to go east." "What do you do if he comes back?" "I tell him to go west." "And when he comes back from the west, what do you do then?" She said, "I just keep him going from the east to the west."

To God be the glory for His goodness and mercy!
