You Can't Out Run Pride

You Can't Outrun Pride | May 22, 2026

In the Bible, God has used dreams to communicate with people and reveal important messages, some of which had prophetic implications. One such account involved Daniel and Nebuchadnezzar. In this dream, Nebuchadnezzar was given a forewarning to renounce his sin and do what was right (Daniel 4:27). The king, however, refused to repent, so the warning in the dream was fulfilled.
Daniel 4:28-33 says, "All this happened to King Nebuchadnezzar. 29 Twelve months later, as the king was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, 30 he said, 'Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?' 31 Even as the words were on his lips, a voice came from heaven: 'This is decreed for you, King Nebuchadnezzar: Your royal authority has been taken from you. 32 You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like the ox. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes.' 33 Immediately, what had been said about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. He was driven away from people and ate grass like the ox. His body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird."
The king allowed his pride and polytheistic beliefs to control him. Thus, the Lord intervened, and Nebuchadnezzar experienced firsthand the greatness of God's power. After being humbled, the king acknowledged his place before the God of Heaven, who has authority over all and is active in individuals' lives. Daniel 4:34 tells us, "At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever."
God is still intervening today because He loves us and knows the destructive effects of pride. Like Nebuchadnezzar, you can try to run wild in your pride, but eventually, it will catch up with you. Knowing this, get alone with God by spending time in His Word, praying, fasting, and laying down any prideful pursuit. Come to know God's greatness without the painful lessons of pridefulness.
