Let Godly Wisdom Guide You

One of democracy's greatest blessings is the right to vote. Regardless of political affiliation, we can all agree that the opportunity to cast a ballot is a sure sign of our success as a country.

However, this opportunity should not be pursued negligently. We have a responsibility to treat the right to vote with the utmost diligence and integrity. Thus, the combination of researching candidates and incumbents, along with seeking God for wisdom, is our best recourse for placing a meaningful vote.

First, we need to do our homework and examine all candidates' positions. We should conduct a thorough review of their ideas and, if applicable, their past votes on moral issues that relate to our Christian values.

Secondly, we need to assess each candidate's established track record of faith or public support for Christianity. Although we live in an increasingly "politically correct and optics-focused" society, the need for leaders who genuinely seek God has never been greater!

The concept of politicians sincerely seeking God seems like a foreign subject, but it doesn't have to be because we are a nation that was founded by men who were not perfect, but some of them sought God.

Remember, it was John Hancock, while Governor of Massachusetts, who called his entire state to pray, “that universal happiness may be established in the world [and] that all may bow to the scepter of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the whole earth be filled with His glory.”

Across his proclamations as Governor of Massachusetts, Hancock repeatedly called the state to pray: that all nations would bow to the scepter of the Lord Jesus Christ and the whole earth be filled with His glory; that Christ's spiritual kingdom would continually increase; that the people would confess their sins and implore God's forgiveness through the merits of the Savior; and that the benign religion of Christ would be known, understood, and practiced throughout the earth.

With this in mind, let us pray for our mid-term and local elections. Let us also ask God for wisdom in this area. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask God who gives to all generously without finding fault."

May God's will be done and may we honor our blessing of democracy.
