Take The Hammer To Your Unhealthy Fear

Take The Hammer To Your Unhealthy Fear | January 10, 2026
In yesterday's devotional, we explored the difference between healthy and unhealthy fear. Understanding these differences is crucial in combating this familiar challenge.
Medical studies show that unhealthy fear is a significant threat to your overall well-being and should not be overlooked. Chronic, unhealthy fear can lead to serious health problems, including a weakened immune system, cardiovascular damage, chronic pain, digestive issues, and mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Additionally, it can impair memory and decision-making abilities.
When it comes to overcoming unhealthy fear, we need to be both aggressive and proactive. Please think of the promises found in Scripture as a hammer that we can use to dismantle and destroy the stronghold that fear can have on us. Isaiah 41:10 says, "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Whether it was the people of before, during, or after Isaiah's time, God stands at the ready to strengthen those who sincerely call on His name. Therefore, we have nothing to fear if we are in the Lord, not even evil! Psalm 23:4 says, "Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me."
These verses remind us that fear loses its power when we focus on God's promises. We also receive strength in the form of wisdom, which helps us make wise decisions about moving forward instead of staying trapped in fear.
With this in mind, take up the hammer of God's promises and strike away at your fears! Break every stronghold of fear that has caused problems, pain, and panic in your life. May unhealthy fear be shattered today -- In Jesus' name, Amen!
