Do You Have A "Bah-Humbug" Attitude

Do You Have A "Bah-Humbug" Attitude | December 15th

Ebenezer Scrooge is among the most infamous characters in English literature and Christmas. He debuted in Charles Dickens's "A Christmas Carol” in 1843. Scrooge's famous saying, "Bah Humbug," perfectly defined his attitude. This iconic catchphrase expressed his disdain for all things related to Christmas.

In A Christmas Carol, Scrooge is depicted as an elderly miser who is both unkind and greedy. Consequently, he is visited by the ghost of his former business partner, Jacob Marley, as well as the spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. These unusual encounters lead to an immediate transformation in Scrooge's perspective and intentions. He evolves into a generous and kind-hearted person.
You may need some help addressing your bah-humbug attitude this Christmas season. While you don't need to worry about the ghost of someone you mistreated showing up, you are responsible for seeking the Holy Spirit's wisdom. God will send the Holy Spirit to bring conviction and facilitate change in your life. The Holy Spirit will challenge any selfishness or sarcasm you may have. More importantly, you will be reminded to reflect on the true reason for the season: the generous gift of God's son, Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 9:6-7 says, "For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this."

Remember, the very essence of Christmas is the gracious generosity of God. That means there is absolutely no room in your life for that bah-humbug attitude. God's heart is that we would be known for our gracious and generous behavior, especially during the Christmas season.
