God Is Always Up

A mother and her 8-year-old daughter were getting ready for bedtime. The child was afraid of the dark, and the mother also felt fearful on this occasion. When the lights were out, the child saw the moon outside the window. "Mother," she asked, "is the moon God's light?" "Yes," replied the mother.

The next question was, "Will God put out His light and go to sleep?" The mother replied, "No, my child, God never goes to sleep." Then, with the simplicity of a child's faith, she reassured her worried mother, saying, "Well, if God is awake, there's no need for both of us to stay awake."

You never have to worry about God missing a shift or calling out sick. You also don't need to be concerned about Him sleeping in or taking a break from His caring and watchful presence in your life. Even when you struggle and can't sleep, you're not alone because God is always awake! As the little girl learned, we must hold firmly to the reassuring yet straightforward belief that God is always on duty! He is fully aware of your anxiety and sleepless nights. He knows your concerns and fears.
Therefore, place your trust in His constancy and rest in His promises.

Psalm 121:1-8, "I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; 8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore."
