Our Light Assignment | September 24th

‌
Interestingly enough, in this life, your greatness is determined by what you get, but in heaven, your greatness will be marked by what you give. Thus, Jesus' words ring true: "'It's more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35).
One area of meaningful contribution that reverberates in heaven is the assignment Jesus gave His people concerning light. Matthew 5:14a says, "You are the light of the world..." Here, Jesus attaches significant value and importance to each believer as He did when He said, “You are the salt of the earth" (Matthew 5:13a).

First, think of it this way: God has given each of us an assignment that reflects the goodness and purpose of His Son. In John 8:12, Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life." Essentially, the Lord shared his glory and extraordinary mission of providing light to a dark world. We should take this seriously and treat it as our responsibility.

Secondly, consider the current times and the darkness seemingly increasing each day. The news contains plenty of stories about the advancement of darkness. Whether it is the gross practice of human trafficking or the influx of drugs into our country, our light is needed.

Finally, remember that we will give God an account concerning our accomplishment of this assignment. Either we will fulfill our purpose to be light or fail. The outcome depends heavily on our trust in God and willingness to be used for His kingdom plans. You can be the light of the world by being a person of integrity, treating people right, and, most importantly, seeking God. Therefore, strive to be light at work, school, the ball field, the classroom, or your home.
