Stop Going Against Yourself

Stop Going Against Yourself | August 5th
When facing struggles, we often concentrate on external circumstances or people. If this is the challenge, then we have a clear target. However, our greatest battle occurs between our ears more often than we realize! See, we have a habit of allowing our negative self-talk to dominate our thinking. This mindset either produces counterproductive actions or a lack of activity altogether.
Moreover, dwelling on weaknesses and constantly revisiting disappointments increases frustration. As a result, we start making decisions that hurt us instead of helping. Thus, the advice we need to remind ourselves of daily, especially when we feel stuck, is "Stop Going Against Yourself."
We need to stop believing the lies, stop saying, "I don't care," and stop talking in terms of "negative finality," like, "It's never going to change!" or "I don't see this ever happening." These statements and others like them reveal someone "going against themselves," which certainly is not God's will for His children.
Therefore, if you are aware of this problem, whether it applies right now or not, safeguard your mind and spirit by reading Paul's words to the church at Philippi: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13).
Let these words sink into your mind, and reject the lies that say otherwise. By God's grace, you can win the war within. Start by thanking God for His goodness and take inventory of your blessings. Next, declare that Christ will give you the strength to push through. To help you along, check out some of the lyrics from the song "My God Can" by Kathy Nicole and Naomi Raine:
I might not be able to part the waters
Might not be able to calm the storms
Might not be able to make my giants fall
But good thing I'm not alone
Cause there is a power that is greater
So I'm not afraid of what's ahead
I'm standing in the confidence
That even though I can't
I can do all things, all things
Through Christ who gives me strength
I can do all things, all things
Cause His Spirit lives in me
I can do all things, all things
Through Christ who gives me strength
I can do all things, all things
Cause His Spirit lives in me
