Choose The Son

Choose God's Son | December 30, 2023

A very affluent woman passed away and had no next of kin on record to receive her assets. She was extremely wealthy, and her estate, which included costly artwork, antique cars that her husband once collected, and expensive furniture, filled the home. Since there were no relatives to inherit the property and possessions or even a legal will, the entire fortune was set to auction, with a publicized date in the local paper. On the day of the auction, over a hundred people poured into the impressive grounds of the mansion. One by one, they began to cherrypick their favorite items. However, there was one particular portrait that everyone passed. It was a painting of the wealthy woman's late son, who preceded her in death along with her husband.

As the people perused the jewelry, silverware, and pricey wine collection, the lady's former housekeeper, who loved her son and raised him during her time of employment at the estate, bid $20 on the portrait of the son. The auctionary said, going, going, gone--sold to the housekeeper for $20. After they gave her the portrait, she turned it over. The affluent woman's handwriting was written on the back with a message signed by her. It stated, "Whoever chooses the son gets it all." The message was authenticated, and by rights, that became the woman's legal will, which meant the housekeeper got the entire estate and its contents because she chose the son.

We can learn a lot from this housekeeper's choice. Like the others, she could have gone after the pricier "things" in the home, but her love for the son was more important, and the reward more than paid off for that decision. She chose the son and got it all.
‌Likewise, when we choose God's Son over our selfish agendas, desires, and impulses, we will get everything we need because God is faithful. Jesus said in John 10:10, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." He has come to give us peace with the Father, forgiveness, and grace. Choosing the Son also provides freedom. John 8:36, "If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."

‌Knowing this, stop chasing the temporary pleasures of this world and choose God's Son over everything!
