A crucial component of athletic competition is the officiating of the games. Judges, refs, and umpires play a critical role in the integrity of sports. Thus, if an official mistakenly misses a call or, even worse, blatantly cheats to alter the outcome, the game is compromised. You never have to worry about God missing anything. He is the great umpire who sits on His throne, fairly administering mercy and justice. He sees everything, and nothing escapes His eyes. Revelation 19.12 provides a picture of this reality when it says;

"His eyes were like a fiery flame, and many crowns were on his head. He had a name written that no one knows except himself."

As John continues to write the incredible report of the return of Christ, he now focuses on the visual description of Jesus, as He did in chapter one. John begins with the Lord's eyes and says they were like a flame of fire, which represents penetrating and piercing vision. Those eyes saw the host of angels as they gathered for His birth. Those eyes looked on the afflicted with compassion. Those eyes wept for the spiritual condition of the lost. Those eyes tenderly looked on children. Those eyes looked past class, disability, and race to extend love. Those eyes kindly looked on sinners, and these same eyes will convey a message of justice in the last days.

Next, John moves from the Lord's eyes to His head, which will be crowned with many crowns. In battle, it is commonplace for the victorious king to collect the crowns of the kingdoms he conquers. David did the same after defeating the Ammonites (2 Samuel 12.30). So the Lord will do so as He convincingly defeats the enemies of heaven. The crowns also symbolize that He alone is worthy to rule over the earth sovereignly.

Trusting in God's sovereignty in this manner will produce unquestionable peace that will rule your heart and surpass the stresses of this world. Nothing escapes His holy vision, and He alone is King of kings and Lord of lords. Colossians 3.15 says;

"And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.”
