Blessed Are The Charitable
When you give of yourself in charitable ways, you’ll see that blessed are the charitable for their generosity shall reverberate in heaven. In many ways, we can be the United States of Getting. Even with Black Friday, it’s now Black Thursday Night as people line up before the stores open. And as the media interviews the people in line and asks them who they are getting gifts for, the answer is growingly becoming that they are in line to get something for themselves. There’s nothing wrong with splurging on self every once in a while, but if someone is going to potentially leave their family and friends just to get themselves something; then that speaks to the culture of getting that we live in.
As a culture, we want to know about how we can get more, but counter to culture, Jesus says that if you want to live a blessed life you need to learn to give more. As you study the Scriptures, you’ll see how true that is. Normally, when the topic of giving comes up, we think just in the area of the checkbook or finances; but it’s much more than that. God is not going broke. He is the King. He owns it all. He’s the owner and we’re the manager. That which God blesses us with; whether it be our financial resources, our abilities, or our time; we are to have a charitable mentality with them. Charitable giving done in God’s way doesn’t just make an impact here, it reverberates in heaven.
