When it comes to life, you can find yourself asking "How can I possibly be thankful when my circumstances are difficult?" Being thankful can seem extremely difficult when circumstances within your own home, your own heart, and your own head are contrary to the happiness that you want to be having. Even in the news, it is tough to be thankful when one news report after another is filled with some tragedy. Circumstances are certainly an obstacle in this life, but being thankful is vital to our overall health, mentally, physically, and spiritually. God designed us to be thankful people. Though you may think “I need to have perfect circumstances to be thankful,” perfect circumstances are not going to happen until you arrive in heaven. How then can you be thankful when going through the obstacle course of our circumstances? We look to God’s Word for the answer.
Developing An Attitude Of Gratitude
A reality of our fast moving, busy society is that being thankful has become a challenge. It usually takes a life-altering event or near-death experience to shake off the rust of ungratefulness. However, you don’t have to wait for something earth shattering to happen in order to be thankful. Being thankful is vital to your relationship with God and your relationship with others. The absence of thankfulness usually means discontentment and discouragement have made themselves comfortable in your heart. In order to rise above that, we must first realize that genuine and lasting thankfulness flows from a healthy soul. When your heart is right with God you will develop an attitude of gratitude that will overcome any obstacle and oppression you may face. The challenge is being willing to make changes to your perspective on life.
