What’s A Baptism Like     Get Baptized

Christians Are Baptized Because…

[zilla_one_half]

Baptism follows the example set by Jesus

“At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.” – Mark 1:9

Baptism demonstrates that I really am a believer

“Many … believed and were baptized after listening to Paul. – Acts 18:8

Baptism is commanded by Christ

“Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you…”- Matthew 28:19-20

Baptism Is:

[zilla_one_half]

Baptism illustrates Christ’s death and resurrection

“Christ died for our sins…He was buried… and He was raised on the third day” – 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

“When you were baptized, you were buried with Christ, and you were raised up with him…” – Colossians 2:12

Baptism illustrates my new life as a Christian

Baptism doesn’t make you a believer.  It shows that you already believe.

Baptism does not “save” you, only your faith in Christ does that.

Baptism is like a wedding ring, it’s the outward symbol of the commitment you’ve already made in your heart.

“When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun!- 2 Corinthians 5:17

“By our baptism, then, we were buried with him and shared his death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from death by the glorious power of the Father, so also we might live a new life. – Romans 6:4

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast. – Ephesians 2:8-9

Baptism Is By Immersion…

[zilla_one_half]

Jesus was baptized by immersion

“As soon as Jesus was baptized, he came up out of the water.” – Matthew 3:16

Every baptism in the Bible was by immersion

“Then both Philip and the man… went down into the water and Philip baptized him…When they came up out of the water – Acts 8:38-39

The word “Baptize” means to Dip Under water

Baptism in the original New Testament language of Greek, is Baptizo: Meaning: To immerse or dip under water

Baptism Is For…

[zilla_one_half]

Any & Every person who is a Believer in Jesus Christ

“Those who believed what he said were baptized…” – Acts 2:41

“But when they believed Philip preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.” – Acts 8:12

Baptism Must Follow Belief

Baptism is for a believer, after they have put their faith in Christ

“Many … believed and were baptized after listening to Paul. – Acts 18:8

A Christian Should Be Baptized…

[zilla_one_half]

As soon as you have put your faith in Christ

“Those who believed what he said were baptized…that day” – Acts 2:41

[/zilla_one_half]

[zilla_one_half_last]

There is no reason to delay.  As soon as you have decided to receive Jesus Christ into your life, you can & should be baptized.  If you wait until you are “perfect,” you will never feel “good enough.”

Then Philip told him about Jesus. He began with what the man read in the book. While they were going along, they came to some water by the road. The man said, `See, here is water. What is there to stop me from being baptised?’  Philip answered, `If you believe with all your heart, you may be baptised.’ The man said, `I do believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.’ The man told the driver to stop. Then both he and Philip went down into the water, and Philip baptised him. – Acts 8:35-38

Baptism And Babies/Children

[zilla_one_half]

A child should be old enough to believe & understand the true meaning of  baptism, before they are baptized

Some places practice a “baptism of confirmation” for children. This ceremony is intended to be a covenant between the parents and God on the behalf of the child.  The parents promise to raise their child in the faith, until the child is old enough to make his/her own personal confession of Christ.  This custom began about 300 years after the Bible was completed.

[/zilla_one_half]

[zilla_one_half_last]

This is different from the baptism that is taught in the Bible.  Biblically, baptism was only for those old enough to believe.  The purpose is to publicly confess your personal commitment to Christ.

“Those who believed what he said were baptized…”- Acts 2:41

Can Friends & Families Be Baptized Together?

[zilla_one_half]

They can if each person fully understands the meaning of baptism, and each one has personally placed his/her trust  in Jesus Christ for salvation.

We encourage families & friends to be baptized together. It is a wonderful  expression of commitment

[/zilla_one_half]

[zilla_one_half_last]

It is important to remember that Baptism is a personal statement of faith, not a family or group tradition.

It is usally not wise to delay your baptism while waiting on others to join you.  This puts an undue pressure on them, and      delays your obedience to God.

Clothing For Baptism…

Shorts, Tops, and Swimsuits should be black/dark, as you will be fully immersed in the water.

What To Bring With You For Baptism…

Bring a change of clothes, a towel, and a plastic bag for your wet clothes.

Will I Have To Say Anything?

Once in the water, the baptizer will ask you one question “Why do you come to be baptized today?”

The Price Of Baptism…

Your Baptism has already been paid for, by Jesus Christ on The Cross.

Crossroads will never charge, or ask for a “donation” for Baptism.
